Dr. Newton enjoys spending time with her husband, outdoor activities, and watching local high school sports especially girl’s basketball.

Biography

Originally from Fannin County, Dr. Amanda Newton attended Fannin County High School where she graduated with honors and was an avid multisport athlete participating on the basketball, cross country and track teams. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Shorter College graduating magna cum laude. After college, she worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gaining valuable insight and experience in research and public health prior to attending medical school. She received her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center. During residency, she was awarded the Outstanding Pediatric Resident Award, the Deborah Sims Fulmer, MD Resident Excellence in Teaching Award, and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

For most of her life, Dr. Newton knew she wanted to be a pediatrician. She has a genuine interest in getting to know her families and developing lasting relationships with them. Bringing her desire to help children and her love of Fannin County together, she is proud to be home providing pediatric healthcare to her community. She is married to Ryan Chastain, also a Fannin County native, who is a teacher and the Head Coach of Fannin County High School Girls Basketball Team.
